Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Urinary tract infections are a common infection that occurs more with women than men. The symptoms include burning with urination, frequency, blood in urine, and even back pain. If a UTI is not treated, symptoms can progress to sepsis with symptoms of fever, weakness, low blood pressure, lethargy, and even death.

The treatment is usually an antibiotic and drinking fluids. Fluids include water and cranberry juice. Cranberry juice has not been documented in the literature.

Urinary incontinece and urinary tract infections in women during menopause can be caused by low levels of estradiol and progesterone, and it is call gentiourinary syndrome.
